In addition to the related project, CeVICA is a relational database dedicated to the study of pottery and glass artifacts discovered at numerous sites in central Italy, covering a period from the 4th century BC to the 7th century AD. Initiated as part of a doctoral thesis (S. Dienst, Étude chronologique, économique et culturelle de la vaisselle du Piano della Civita à Artena (Latium) depuis la République romaine jusqu'à l'Antiquité tardive (A Chronological, Economic and Cultural Study of the Ware from the Piano della Civita at Artena (Latium) from the Roman Republic to Late Antiquity), defended at the University of Liège under the supervision of X. Deru and available here), it brings together data from sites that have, for the most part, already been published, but using a variety of reference systems (typologies, functions, categories). In order to enable comparison, these publications were re-examined and the material was standardised in the form of new inventories.
The database also includes previously unpublished material, primarily from the Piano della Civita at Artena.
CeVICA is built on LOGACer (Logiciel Online de Gestion et d'Analyse de la Céramique - online software for the management and analysis of archaeological pottery). The relational structure of the database enables advanced queries and cross-site analyses.
This database is under continuous development. Contact us to share your questions, suggestions or comments, or learn more about the project on the About and Contact page.
Enjoy exploring!
